holocaust memorial day

yesterday was the memorial day for the holocaust and heroism
yom hashoah.

it starts at sundown the day before in a state ceremony held at the warsaw ghetto plaza at yad vashem, the holocaust martyrs' and heroes authority, in jerusalem. during the ceremony the national flag is lowered to half mast and the president and the prime minister both hold speeches. later on holocaust survivors light six torches symbolizing the approximately six million jews who where killed in the holocaust and the chief rabbies recite prayers.

at ten in the morning on yom hashoah, sirens are to be heared throughout Israel for two minutes. during the sound of the sirens everyone stops whatever they where doing (even cars on highways) and  the whole country comes to a standstill as people pay silent tribute to the dead.
ceremonies are held at schools, military bases and in other public places.

you can skip the first 35 sec.

It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about the six million who were killed. It's looks like a nice tribute, even traffic stops!

That is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! I had never heard of this before, thanks for sharing!
