making my own pita bread =)

for 15 pitas you will need:
  • 500ml tepid water
  • 50g yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp backing powder
  • 0,8-1 kg flour
    • dissolve the yeast in 100ml of the water. add the rest of the water and all the other ingredients (be careful with the flour and only add a bit at a time because you might need more or less. it depends on your flour and on the humidity in your kitchen). make sure to kneed the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes  soft and homogeneous. then form 15 small buns, put them on a clean kitchen towel and cover with plastic wrap and another towel. leave it for 10 minutes.
    • cover a surface with flour and roll the buns to discs (diameter 20cm) and let them sit under a towel for 45 min.
    • heat your oven to 200°C/392°F and bake them, three or four at a time until they are golden.

     UPDATE: this is a nice recipe but the pitas are crunchy, if you want your pitas to be soft try this one!

    if you cant eat all of them you can put the dough discs in the freezer and bake them another day =)
