firmin by sam savage

Firmin - adventures of an metropolitan lowlife.

i just finished reading it and was deeply moved by this small and ugly rat that wants nothing more then to be human or at least to be able to comunicate with them.

as the video tells firmin is born in the basement of an old book store. he has 12 siblings and there is only place for 12 at his mothers breast so he has to think of something else. that is how he discovers how good paper tasts, books especially. and finaly he starts reading  instead of eating them and dives into the amazing worlds that literatur offers.

from now on he developes an incredible gift of imagination and starts falling in love with his first human being: norman, the owner of he bookstore.

the knesset votes down bill to allow civil marriage in israel!

this bill would have made it possible for couples with different religions or couples who just want to leave the religion out of this matter to marry and devorce. but once again we get a proof of how much power the ultra orthodox have in this contry...
sad but true.

protest against insane rents in tel aviv

the prices for flats in tel aviv became so high in the last years that no one really can afford living inside the city anymore. especially the students have enough now.
so they started camping on rothschild boulevard some time ago to protest against unfair prices and the fact that most flats are in an aweful condition. many owners dont care about the flat as long as it brings in money.
have a look at the tel aviv rooftop blog for some facts about the protest and the rents in tel aviv

i have no idea who is making them and why, if it is only one person or many and if it has a meaning or not.

i now opened a flickr group to gather all the photos of these mysterious eggplants.

does anyone know anything about them?

where is this?

did you ever find a stunning photo on the web that filled you with wanderlust (itchy feet) but there was no way to find out where it is? well recently i found a website (called "where is this") where you can post photos like this and people from all over the world will help you finding out where it is!

a gift from lauren (too blessed to be stressed)

yesterday i got a package from my dear blogging friend lauren
it is a knitting kit for a bag. i was thinking about making a bag for a while now but i never took myself together and started. so now is the time =)
thank you so much lauren.
you made my day!

garden update

while i was in germany our vegetable garden went a bit wild but also produces
nice little tomatoes,
cucumbers,
hot and regular peppers,
watermelons
and eggplants.
for some reason the pumpkin and zucchini have a problem and i cant figure out what.
the zucchini for example has a lot of flowers and also starts making small vegetables but then they become rotten before they are bigger than one of my fingers. our peas died completely and my potatoes aren't happy at all. but to summ it all up: our vegetable garden is fine and better then i thought it would be.
we also planted some new plants like the head of a pineapple.
after eating the pineapple we simply put the green head into water for a while and it made a lot of roots.
now our little pineapple is growing happily in our garden =)
most of the other parts of the garden though are yellow and wont grow like i want them to...

i am back in israel and first had to get used to everything again. except for that it is unbelivebly warm and we went to another wedding on the week-end.

but here i am now, looking for a job, eating passionfruits and trying to make the garden look nice and green and get everything to grow...
not as easy as i thought...
