outside the vault - new blog

R. and i decided to start a blog together.
Why did we decide to start this blog?

We felt like we want to start a journal about our small urban balcony garden, our experiments with baking and all the other things to come.

Some time ago we started thinking about self sufficiency and life outside this weird concept we all live in where you go to work for someone else most of your life, waiting for those few years in the end where you don't have to work for someone else anymore (if you will ever get there) to actually start living.

Would it not be much nicer and more satisfying to work for yourself, grow your own food and to be independent from the big corporations and companies?

Would it not be much more real to actually know where the food is coming from that you eat every day and give to your children?

Would a life in harmony with nature not make much more sense?

Well, i know that for me all this is true.

I know that for me all this would make more sense.

And i know that i want to give it a try.
So these are our attempts of living outside the vault (does anyone of you know Fall Out?), outside this system, going back to the basics and starting a self sufficient life.
It is going to take a lot of years and practise.
But everyone has to start somewhere, so we start on our balcony in Tel Aviv, Israel.

we singed on valentines day =)

We just singed the contract for our new flat yesterday :)
I still can't really believe it. As it seems so far away.  It is only one month though...
the owners are really nice and everything seems so perfect... ca 80 m², 3 rooms, wooden floors, 2 bathrooms (one with a shower and a toilette and the other one with a bathtub and a toilette), a nice kitchen.....and ONLY 4800 shekel (960 euro that is cheap for an apartment like that in israel!)
i am still waiting for the catch.
these photos are from the add on yad2 (an israeli website for searching flats, cars, furniture and basically everything else).

Blogging on the go....

I just bought an HTC EVO 3D and finally I will be able to blog when i am on the bus, train, or anywhere else :) now for exemple I am on my way to work.
We are still looking for flats as we are moving on the 1. 3. 2012.  I am used to know where I move at least two months before but that is not how it works here... It is impossible at the moment to find flats that will be free from the 1. 3., most of them are free now or in about two weeks... That makes it hard to plan everything and i think that's how you make wrong decicions.  But that's how it works around here.
You simply can't imagine how I am looking forward to moving.  We spent one year in this house and still we did not really arrive or feel like it is ours. Besides that I wont miss the 1, 5 hour way to my work....
