fast food generation...

i was aware that people take their kids to mc donalds, kfc and burger king and i was aware of the damages that that would probably do to their small bodies but i would have never imagined that there are kids that grow up on only junk food... can you imagine? ONLY french fries, greasy pizza, chicken wings and burgers... also i know that there are picky kids (and adults) as i people that eat only certain things what i did not know s why they are so picky and how to change or avoid that altogether.

a few days ago i saw this documentary about babies that live on fast food and was shocked (because really all they eat is junk) and facinated by the sollutions for overcoming picky eating and by the explanations how and why kids might be picky eaters.

Fast Food Baby - BBC Documentary

obviously eating junk food all the time will make you gain weight and probably will cause all sorts of other problems but i am still amazed at how slight changes in diet and behaviour can chang all that. have a look here at how those small things can change peoples lives:

Too Fat To Toddle - BBC Documentary

and it is the same problem everywhere... we just saw it in britain, the same in the US:

The Weight of the Nation: Part 1 - Consequences (HBO Docs)

The Weight of the Nation: Part 2 - Choices (HBO Docs)

The Weight of the Nation: Part 3 - Children in Crisis (HBO Docs)

and we are exporting this problem to china, india, mexico, brazil...

Globesity: Fat's New Frontier

it is incredible how fast this problem is expanding, those countries go straigt from underweight and malnurished to overweight and obese. this just makes me want to grow my own food even more, regaining control of what i put in my body, being able to choose healthy and natural foods.
what are your thoughts on this? i would love to hear about it.

the jean pain method

in the last days i saw several posts about compost heated showers and i had to think about a method i read about some time back. the following post was originally posted on my other blog Outside the Vault  13.09.12.

I just found this old documentation on youtube about a french guy called jean pain who (back in the 70s!!!) used composting shredded wood piles to heat water, produce methan gas (that used to cook, produce electricity and power his truck) and in the end he used the composted pile to fertilize his garden. have a look and ask yourselfs why not everyone has one of those in their backyards!

i also found a german (www.nativepower.de) and an austrian (www.biomeiler.at) company that build those biomeiler for privat houses, hotels and many other places.

Here you can see how one of native powers biomeiler is build.
jean and ida pain seem to be well known and there is even a "comité jean pain" in belgium.
but i was looking for jean and idas book everywhere and the only helpful information was on the comités webpage. apparently amazon is out of stock and does not even have a photo of the book and you dont get much information from google either. It seems like the book was translated into german, dutch and english.
UPDATE: i found a pdf of the book.
it may take a while to load so be patient.
if you want to learn more go and have a look on youtube, there are lots of projects going on, even in sibiria or have a look at the following links:
do you know anything about this amazing compost pile system?

UPDATE 3.8.13: here are some more recent experiments inspired by this method:
